UPV holds 1st virtual commencement rites

UPV holds 1st virtual commencement rites

Four hundred seventy undergraduate and graduate students were conferred their degrees through the 1st virtual commencement ceremony held by the University of the Philippines Visayas on August 6, 2021, via YouTube and Facebook Live.

These are graduates of 2020 and 2021. Because of the national lockdown in March last year that stretched to the month of May brought about by the pandemic, the university could not have its graduation rites. Because the pandemic is still ongoing, a virtual ceremony was the next best thing.

Out of the combined 470 graduates, three were magna cum laude and 25 cum laude in 2020, while two were cum laude for 2021. The graduates are from the five degree-granting units of the university, namely, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, College of Management, School of Technology, and the UPV Tacloban College.

The occasion also marked the investiture of Dr. Clement C. Camposano, the 11th Chancellor of UPV appointed by the UP Board of Regents, on September 24, 2020.
