The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Fighting Maroons officially started their bid to compete for regional sports glory after participating in the opening parade and ceremonies of the Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association (RSCUAA) 2024 at the Tamasak Arena, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo, on Dec. 15, 2024.
The Fighting Maroons, along with 12 other competing state universities and colleges in Western Visayas, participated in the parade. Its delegation, 161, is composed of student-athletes, coaches, and assistant coaches who took part in the opening parade and ceremonies.
The delegation added color to their participation in the parade and performance with UP’s iconic “U-nibersidad ng Pilipinas” chant while waving their maroon and green-colored flaglets.
UPV officials and personnel, led by Chancellor Clement Camposano, were also at the event to show support for the delegation.
A total of 143 student-athletes from UPV will vie for medals and sports glory in this year’s RSCUAA.
The theme of the RSCUAA 2024 is “One Western Visayas: Promoting Peace, Inclusivity, and Well-Being through Sports,” and the games will be played in various venues in the towns of Barotac Nuevo, Anilao, and Dumangas and the cities of Iloilo and Passi from Dec. 15-20, 2024.
This year’s RSCUAA is hosted by the Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST). This is the first time that ISUFST gets to host the regional sports tournament.
