UPV establishes DIC to address technological, digital innovation requirements

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) has established the Digital Innovation Center (DIC) effective this May, as per Memorandum No. CCC 2023-05-021, dated May 16, 2023, from the Office of the Chancellor.

The creation of the DIC aims to address the existing and emerging technological and digital innovation requirements of UPV. It will serve as the information technology organization of the University.

The DIC, to be headed by its newly-appointed Director, Asst. Prof. Rhea Subong-Espina of the College of Management, will be under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration. She will serve as DIC Director from May 1 - Oct. 31, 2023.

DIC will function to formulate and endorse digital innovation plans and strategies; recommend best practices; implement approved technology and digital innovation programs; ensure the implementation of digital innovation and information and communications technology-related policies; and provide technical assistance.

It will also organize capacity-building activities; conduct research and development; and provide extension services on technology innovations to the academe and private and public institutions, in collaboration with other units.

The UP Board of Regents (BOR) approved the creation of the DIC during its 1371st meeting dated June 9, 2022.

The Data and Information Systems Program (DISP), headed by Subong-Espina prior to the establishment of DIC, will now be part of the Center.
