A workshop on the Development of Framework for Integrated Coastal Sustainable Development was conducted on 2 October 2023 at Function Room 1, Diversion 21 Hotel, Iloilo City, which was facilitated by Prof. Jessica Dator-Bercilla.
The workshop aims to develop a framework for integrated coastal sustainable development and plan specific program of activities using the theory of change. This multi and trans-disciplinary program brings together ideas, perspectives, and advocacies from different knowledge areas, technologies, and key stakeholders. Through this program, the project team will be able to cohesively integrate similarly interrelated projects under one framework and remove "silos" with a view to creating a comprehensive approach to coastline protection and sustainable development.
Representatives from the Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas CG CDR Edison Diaz and CG PO1 Carmelo Mateo Manalo, Asst. Prof. Karlo Primavera, CFOS-IMFO, and Asst. Prof. Liberty Espectato, CFOS-IFPDS provided practical and scientific-based insights on the state of play in coastline protection, resilience, and sustainable development in the Philippines. Workshop participants were composed of project staff from the College of Fisheries, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Management, and School of Technology.
The program was funded through the efforts of Senator Pia Cayetano in the FY 2023 GAA with Chancellor Clement Camposano as the main program proponent, Dr. Ramer Baustista as program leader, Dr. Harold Monteclaro, VCRE, and Prof. Pepito Fernandez, Jr. as PDA for the Coastline Protection and Sustainable Development Program.
