UPV-CFOS all set for 2023

The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS) is now ready to work on achieving its goals for 2023 and the upcoming years.

To kick off the year right, the College organized a two-day year-end review and strategic planning workshop, one of the regular activities of CFOS, at the Pidlaoan Hall, CFOS, UPV Miagao campus last February 2-3, 2023.

Participated by the CFOS faculty members, REPS, staff, and students, the 2-day activity aimed to evaluate the implementation of the plans in 2022 and formulate strategies that are fit and feasible in the current and future situation.

CFOS dean, Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap, underscored the contribution of CFOS constituents to the success of the College in the past year.

“Let us congratulate ourselves for a productive and meaningful Calendar Year 2022! All the accomplishments that we had would not have been made possible without the cooperation and support of all the constituents of the College,” Yap stated.

One of the biggest accomplishments of the CFOS last year was the accreditation of the BS in Fisheries (BSF) program by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). The BSF is the first degree program in UPV and the 18th out of the 256 BS programs in the UP System to be granted the prestigious international certification.

Yap encouraged everyone to continue their passion and commitment to the College, the fisheries sector, and the Filipino people.

Different committees presented last year’s accomplishments and workshop outputs that highlight the goals, activities, strategies, and action plans on areas related to instruction or academic concerns, general welfare and administrative matters, quality assurance and internationalization, public service, research, student concerns, alumni, disaster risk management, as well as infrastructure and procurement.

The reactors namely, former CFOS dean and member of the Philippine Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Fisheries Prof. Carlos C. Baylon, PhD., World Bank-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) national consultant Ms. Jessica Dator-Bercilla, and UPV vice chancellor for research and extension Prof. Harold M. Monteclaro, PhD.,  shared their insights on the reports.

Their comments and feedback were taken into account for the effective and efficient delivery and implementation of CFOS’s short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals for this year and the years to come.
