UPV celebrates Earth Day 2023

Earthy designs incorporated in green and blue recyclables, music of hope, and messages of stewardship filled the air as children, students, teachers, parents, and other participants celebrated the Earth Day 2023. A Musika Lokal Songfest was held at the grassfield in front of the Gender and Development Program (GDP) Building, UPV Iloilo City Campus last April 20, 2023.

The children of the UPV Balay-Balay Child Minding Center (BBCMC) performed an interpretative prayer while performances from Community Outreach Program-BIDANI (COP-BIDANI), Center for West Visayan Studies (CWVS) and students of the Social Science 5 classes of the College of Management (CM) included komposo, Original Pilipino Music (OPM) songs, and interpretative songs.

Local artist-songwriters Steve Magbanua and Ram Martinez sang their original compositions reflecting their musings on hope, love, and the environment. Climate reality mentor, environmental advocate, and educator Dr. Rebecca Tandug-Barrios was the keynote speaker at the event. She emphasized the need to act with urgency to address pressing environmental issues. She also highlighted the significance of collaborative effort in transforming a future of sustainability for ourselves and the planet while recognizing the diversity of different communities.

This event was organized by GDP, COP-BIDANI, and CWVS.
