More than 840 students residing at the dormitories in the Miagao and Iloilo City campuses of UP Visayas participated in the simultaneous earthquake drill conducted in the evening of April 26, 2023.
Prior to the actual drill, Asst. Prof. Ramil B. Atando, UPV Project Development Assistant for Crisis Management, gave a lecture on the need to conduct the drill, how it is done, and the protocols on conducting it. His lecture at Balay Kanlaon, one of the seven dormitories in the Miagao campus, was also conducted via Zoom and was heard and seen in the other dorms including Balay Ilonggo at the city campus.
After the one-minute alarm went off, students gathered at the designated evacuation area in front of Balay Kanlaon and Balay Madya-as for a recap and a post mortem. At the Iloilo City campus, the students gathered in front of Balay Ilonggo which was the designated evacuation area.
Lending assistance to the drill were personnel from the UPV Security Service Force, the Health Services Unit, Campus Maintenance Development Office, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration, and the Information and Publications Office.
All the dorm managers and staff were also in attendance. They facilitated the drill led by Ms. Divina B. Punongbayan, Facilitator of the UPV Dormitories Disaster Risk Reduction Management Team.
The UPV Crisis Management Committee is chaired by Chancellor Clement Camposano with Vice Chancellor for Administration John Lorenz Belanio as Vice Chair and Incident Commander.
