UPV AdminCon 2024 highlights role, contributions of non-teaching staff

The second University of the Philippines Visayas Administrative Conference (UPV AdminCon 2024), organized by the All UP Workers Union – Iloilo Chapter, highlighted the role and contributions of the University’s non-teaching staff.

The two-day conference held at the CFOS AV Hall on Oct. 24-25, 2024, was themed “Championing the Role of UPV Personnel in the New Normal,” with emphasis on addressing concerns related to the introduction of digital transformation; service to humanity through research and creative work; public service; and psychosocial and general well-being.

The conference was patterned after the UP system-wide Administrative and REPS Conference held in September last year. The UPV AdminCon 2024 was held to discuss relevant topics and provide working solutions for the mutual benefit and protection of the UPV administration and non-teaching staff.

A series of plenary sessions were held during the conference. The speakers included Dr. Francis Dimzon, Digital Transformation (Dx) Adviser; Ms. Soledad Garibay, University Researcher of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (research); Mr. Ruperto Quitag of the Division of Humanities (creative work); Mr. Sashah Dioso, University Research Associate of the Center for West Visayan Studies (public service); and Ms. Khent Adenix, faculty member of the Psychology Cluster.

A breakout session on the second day allowed the participants – including invited representatives from the research, extension, and professional staff (REPS) sector – from the various colleges, schools, offices, and units of UPV to discuss and eventually present issues, concerns, and resolutions to UPV administrators who were present at the conference.

Dr. Cherry Añasco, Asst. to the Vice Chancellor for Administration; Ms. Ella Tidon, Human Resource Development Office Chief; Ms. Eleanor Ravena, Accounting Office Chief; and Dr. Ma. Cecilia Villaruz, Health Services Unit Chief represented the UPV administration and answered the concerns and resolutions provided by the participants. (With sources from AUPWU – Iloilo Chapter)
