The Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WVCHD), in collaboration with UP High School in Iloilo, conducted a Mental Health Forum on September 11, 2024 at the UPV Auditorium, Iloilo City Campus.
The forum involved discussions and activities designed to facilitate self-awareness and social consciousness regarding mental health, enhance students’ understanding of the subject, and contribute to their growth as well-informed and healthy individuals.
Chancellor Clement C. Camposano delivered the opening remarks. Messages of support were given by Hon. Jerry P. Treñas, Mayor of Iloilo City, and Dr. Adriano P. Suba-an, Director IV of DOH-WVCHD.
Dr. Janice Taleon, a psychiatrist at Western Visayas Medical Center, discussed topics on mental health and well-being. She reiterated the importance of mental health for the overall functioning of the individual and emphasized the need to seek professional help when necessary.
Meanwhile, Ms. Seanna Paula Guarnes, Health Program Officer I, and Mr. Jerfie Jerneza, Senior Health Program Officer at DOH-WVCHD, discussed and led activities on stress management.
Dr. Aimee Marie L. Gayomali, head of the Integrated Non-Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Program (INCDPCP), closed the forum.
The forum was attended by Senior High School students (Grades 11 and 12). Mobile clinics were made available to students and employees after the forum, offering free medical consultations and services.
