UP to officially mark its physical presence in Antique

UP Visayas Antique Extension Campus will be in full swing this year. The project which aims to democratize admission and bring UP closer to the community was the brainchild of Deputy Speaker and Antique Representative Loren Legarda who provided allocation when she was yet a senator.

On October 4, Sunday, the 500-square meter lot at Brgy. Nauring Pandan jointly owned by Mrs. Yolanda Batara and Mr. and Mrs. Daughlet Ordinario will be formally turned over to the University of the Philippines through the signing of the Deed of Absolute Donation at the Pandan Municipal Hall lobby.

The event will be attended by the Gov. Rhodora Cadiao of the Province of Antique, Pandan Mayor Plaridel Sanchez, LGU officials and officials from the University of the Philippines Visayas headed by Chancellor Ricardo P. Babaran. Deputy Speaker Loren B. Legarda will join the ceremonies via Zoom.

A groundbreaking ceremony will follow at Brgy. Nauring immediately after the signing of the Deed of Donation.

The construction of the three-storey 50M peso building project will begin this October 2020. The design and plans were facilitated by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development, led by VC Martin Genodepa.

Initial activities lined up as part of establishing UP’s presence in Antique are continuing education programs related to fisheries and entrepreneurship. UPV researchers and scientists have also lined up research projects in the province. (OVCPD through IPO)
