Student Regent Siegfred Severino, the 39th Student Regent of the University of the Philippines (UP), attended the SumagUPa: OSR UP Visayas Student Summit 2023 at the UP Visayas Iloilo City and Miagao campuses to meet and engage with students on March 22-23.
The summit became a venue to discuss students’ concerns, especially since full face-to-face classes have now resumed under the new normal of the pandemic.
Severino and UPV University Student Council (UPV USC) Chairperson Audrey Dayata listened to the concerns of the students from the College of Management (CM) and UP High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) for the first leg, and students from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), and School of Technology (SOTECH) for the second leg.
KASAMA sa UP (KSUP) Deputy Secretary General Niña Estelle Fegi discussed the history of the Office of the Student Regent (OSR) and KSUP while Dayata talked about the university-wide situationer during the summit.
The chairpersons of the various student councils of UPV were also given time to discuss updates on their activities and initiatives, as well as students’ concerns about their respective colleges.
The OSR and UPV USC ensure that they are in constant communication with the concerned offices. In a social media post, the OSR said it is holding a series of consultations and meetings with students across units and campuses of the UP System.
The OSR is the sole representation of the students in the Board of Regents, the highest policy-making body in the UP System.
