UP alumni gather for the UPAA President’s Golf Tournament and ONEUP in Bacolod

The UP Alumni Association (UPAA) organized the UPAA President’s Golf Cup Visayas Leg and the UPAA: ONEUP Western Visayas Gathering held at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club in Bacolod City last February 17, 2024. It was a fundraising event for UPAA’s flagship program, “4E’s Connect,” aimed to support the alumni and students by bridging the gap between education and employment.

One hundred fifteen golfers participated in the tournament held in the morning. UPAA Board of Directors and staff, headed by UPAA President and UP Alumni Regent Hon. Robert Lester F. Aranton, were in full force during the whole time. Various prizes were given away for the tournament and raffle.

UPV Chancellor Dr. Clement C. Camposano and UPV Office of Alumni Relations (OAR) Director Prof. Maria Elisa D. Baliao served as welcoming committee as they met UP President Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez upon his arrival at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport later in the morning. They then proceeded to meet the UPAA Directors.

In the afternoon, more than a hundred UP alumni attended the gathering, many of whom came from Negros and Panay Islands alumni chapters.

UPV Chancellor Camposano welcomed the participants, especially the Western Visayas UP alumni. He said gatherings such as this is always a pleasure. “It is always a joy to be with alumni because I’m reminded not only of my own time in the university, a very important time in my life, but also because it reminds me that the institution I serve is in fact well positioned,” he added.

UPAA President Aranton, then urged the alumni to unite for the good of UP and the UP community. “One UP is not just a slogan. It is a call for action.”

UP President Jimenez followed saying One UP has a deeper meaning. “We have to rethink the university. We have to plan as One UP to become the best in the world.” He said, “[As alumni] we should pull our acts together, because after all is said and done, at the end of the day, only action can produce results.”

He mentioned the “host” Constituent Unit saying, “UPV can truly focus to achieve even greater heights,” then sharing the strategy to “occupy, solidify, and let Western Visayas fly.”

The event was capped with a fellowship night. In the evening, the golf tournament awarding and raffle were held, finishing off with dinner and dancing.

The next tournaments are set to be in Davao City in June and in Butuan City in September 2024.

UPAA is the mother association for all UP alumni chapters in and out of the country. For more information you may send them an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
