After duking it out with the 10 equally competitive academic organizations, Ugyon was able to pull away and claim the throne in this year’s University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Pahampang.
Ugyon finished with a total of 754 points to edge SoTech and the Elektrons in the overall standings en route to becoming champions of the recently concluded sports fest. SoTech earned 750.5 points, while the Elektrons garnered 744.5 points, enough to finish second and third place, respectively.
Ugyon had a strong showing in this year’s Pahampang, clinching championships in the men’s basketball, men’s table tennis, and men’s and women’s long-distance run events.
The team also managed to finish as first and second runners up in various events, namely women’s basketball, men’s volleyball, women’s football, men’s football, women’s badminton, and men’s chess. With the overall victory, Ugyon spoiled SoTech’s attempt at a three-peat.
Meanwhile, SoTech clinched the men’s badminton championship and became overall winners of the Larong Pinoy. The group was also the top performer during the literary-musical contests dubbed “Paindisanay.”
The Elektrons remained competitive throughout the tournament, particularly in ball games where they earned the championships in the men’s volleyball and men’s football events.

There was no shortage of clutch plays, flashy sequences, intense head-to-head battles, and noteworthy performances during this year’s Pahampang, which took place from April to May and was organized by the UPV University Student Council, together with the sponsoring organizations.
This year marked the return of Pahampang after it was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The event’s theme was “Atleta ng Bayan: Pag-alma ng mga Katawang Hinasa, Makabuluhang Tugon ng Pakikibaka.” The events were held at the UPV Covered Court and football field, Miagao campus.
An awarding program was held right after the semifinal and championship rounds of the games on May 12. (With sources from Pagbutlak)
