TLRC expands horizons; celebrates 26th anniversary

The Teaching and Learning Resource Center (TLRC) celebrated its 26th anniversary through various activities with the theme, “Expanding our Horizons,” last April 26 to 28, 2023 and looked back to its milestones of the academic year.

The TLRC, from the start of AY 2022-2023, has conducted several Teaching Effectiveness Programs for faculty members like its semestral Teach S.M.A.R.T. and Learning Instructional Assistance Programs for students like the yearly Bridge Program in Mathematics and English, Peer Tutorial Program, and the newly-formed Algebreak: Supplemental Program for Mathematics Courses.

The center, in its goal of providing teaching and learning support and in promotion of lifelong learning has also conducted several workshops like introductory workshops on teaching and learning tools, orientation on the Learning Management System, Workshop on Institutionalizing Minors Programs, and the Orientation for New Faculty Members in collaboration with other support units and faculty members.

“As I can see from the world line of the TLRC, the center will continue to evolve to keep up with the demands in the educational landscape especially after this pandemic; educational technology indeed takes a big role in the shift to remote learning,” Prof. Lindley Kent M. Faina, Director of the TLRC said, recalling not only the challenges but also the opportunities that came for the center in the last few years.

It followed the message of Vice Chancellor Dr. Philip Ian P. Padilla revealing that the transformation of the LRCs in the UP System to become the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning or CATL is already in the works.

The three-day celebration focused more on giving back to the TLRC’s partners and collaborators within UPV Community through organizing different activities that offered prizes, gifts, and freebies.

Throughout the celebration, TLRC conducted “Pasalamat sa mga Peer Tutors” where volunteer tutors of the Peer Tutorial Program where recognized and given certificates of recognition for their spirit of volunteerism that sustains the program. It was then followed by the TLRC’s TeLeBingo, a bingo competition where several staff and students won prizes for winning the game.
