Roselient Food Manufacturing signs TLA with UPV at Agham+Sining 2022

Tuna Jerky developer and founder of Roselient Foods Manufacturing, Ms. Rose T. Mueda, signed a Technology Licensing Agreement (TLA) with the University of the Philippines Visayas  (UPV) at the ceremonial signing segment, Sealing the Future, of Agham + Sining: UP Innovation and Knowledge Festival 2022 last Nov 28, 2022, at the UP Bonifacio Global City (BGC) campus.

The agreement was signed by UPV TTBDO Director, Dr. Reynold D. Tan, as UPV representative, and witnessed by Vice President for Academic Affairs, Maria Cynthia Rose B. Bautista and UP System TTBDO Director, Dr. Luis G. Sison. With the signing of the TLA, it allows the company to manufacture and sell the jerky as it prepares for its market entry. 

Tuna Jerky is a ready-to-eat snack, a good protein source preserved using natural spices developed by Ms. Mueda, a University Research Associate (URA) II of the Institute of Fish Processing Technology, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UPV. The commercialization track of the technology is licensing through spin-off under the company Roselient Processed Food Manufacturing, which was founded by the technology generator herself. The food product developed is one of the R&D results supported and funded by USAID STRIDE. 

The ceremonial signing event, Sealing the Future: UP Partners with the Industry, was one of the highlights of the two-day event as different technology generators forged relationships with their respective industries through agreement signing. The segment shows the concerted effort in strengthening the industry-academe linkages through collaborative partnerships.

Furthermore, Ms. Mueda was one of the speakers during the event session “Okay ka ba, Tiyan? On Responsible Consumption and Production,” presenting her technology and its journey on food innovation and commercialization. The session featured innovations in food technology and environmental sustainability with the aim to amplify the call for promoting sustainable lifestyles by doing more and better with less.

Agham + Sining: UP Innovation and Knowledge Festival 2022 was organized by the UP System Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA). It showcased some of the University’s best technologies, research, and creative works. It also recognized the University’s most brilliant and productive faculty and researchers working to address key issues in quality education, health and wellbeing, infrastructure and innovation, culture and the arts, and responsible consumption towards a sustainable future. 

The event was streamed live from the UP Bonifacio Global City.
