The Philippine Genome Center Visayas launched its Bioinformatics Laboratory via Zoom last November 29, 2022. Eighty-eight institutions/ companies were represented during the program. Researchers and staff from PGC Diliman, PGC Mindanao, and UP Visayas also attended the online launch.
Dr. Clement C. Camposano, UP Visayas Chancellor, and Dr. Victor Marco Emmanuel N. Ferriols, PGC Visayas Program Director, delivered opening remarks.
Messages from Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. (Department of Science and Technology Secretary), Dr. Jaime C. Montoya (DOST-Philippines Council for Health Research and Development Executive Director III), Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga (Department of Science and Technology VI Regional Director), Pres. Danilo L. Concepcion (University of the Philippines System President) and Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose B. Bautista (University of the Philippines System Vice President for Academic Affairs) were heard during the program.
Dr. Cynthia P. Saloma, PGC Executive Director, also gave her message at the end of the program.
The PGC Visayas Bioinformatics Laboratory offers various services, including SARS-CoV-2 reference-based analysis, genome assembly, phylogenetic and mutation analysis, simple programming/scripting, and 16s metagenomics. The bioinformatics tab on the PGC Visayas website has been updated.
