The UPV Taekwondo (TKD) team’s Pioneering Batch has truly made herstory in the recent RSCUAA competition, claiming four gold medals and securing the overall women’s champion trophy despite entering the competition with only three players. Competing in just two categories, they outshone their rivals with a combination of precision, technique, and unwavering determination.
Jilyn Rose R. Yap emerged as the star of the event, winning the individual Poomsae category in a competitive field of nine teams. Her flawless performance not only earned her a gold medal but also propelled the UPV team to the top of the women’s leaderboard.
In the team Poomsae event, Jilyn Rose R. Yap, along with teammates Algelou Jane W. Bunquin and Mikhaela Sophia B. Harder, triumphed over six competing groups to claim another gold medal. Their outstanding teamwork and synchronized execution set them apart, highlighting the strength and unity of this small but mighty batch.
Despite competing with fewer players than many other teams, UPV’s pioneering Taekwondo athletes, under the guidance of their coach, Ms. Cleo Angelic L. Ruel, proved that excellence is not defined by numbers but by heart, skill, and dedication. Their historic achievement has set a new benchmark in UPV Taekwondo, showing that with passion and perseverance, greatness is within reach.
