Piamonte feted with UPAA Distinguished Alumni Award

Prof. Kevin Piamonte of the Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) has been recognized by the UP Alumni Association (UPAA) for his efforts in preserving Visayas tradition and heritage.

Piamonte, UP Artist II and renowned filmmaker, has been awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Culture and the Arts in Film for the UPAA Alumni Awards 2024. The awards ceremony will be held on Aug. 17, 2024, at Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman, as part of UP’s alumni homecoming festivities. 

Among Piamonte’s notable projects in film include “Solo” (2021), which won the 69th FAMAS Award Best Short Film in 2021; “Dog Eaters” (2022), Best Short Film - Horizons Category at the 13th Binisaya Film Festival; and “Land from God” (2018), which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival in 2018. 

According to the UP System Office of Alumni Relations (UPS-OAR), the UPAA grants the awards to UP alumni who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in their chosen fields of endeavor and have given outstanding contributions that bring about significant benefits to society and distinct honor to the University.

Recognition is given to those with accomplishments that impact the communities in which they are or have been active in, whether on the local, national, or international level, the UPS-OAR further said. (With reports from Daily Guardian and UPV HumDiv)
