Pasipal fuels UPV, Miagao LGU’s competitive spirit

Pasipal fuels UPV, Miagao LGU’s competitive spirit

Friends in real life, but gritty competitors on the court.

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) triumphed over the Miagao local government unit (LGU) by winning a combined five out of eight sports events and “Larong Pinoy” (traditional Filipino games), during the “Pasipal 2023” held at the UPV Covered Court, last Aug. 4.

The competitors squeezed in the games in their schedule despite a heavy final day of the UPV and Miagao LGU Friendship Celebration, which saw the launch of the EcoTrail and EcoWalk, the launch of the Balay Kalagday, bingo socials, and closing program.

UPV won the futsal (men), basketball (men), volleyball (men), volleyball (women), and kadang-kadang. Meanwhile, Miagao LGU won the basketball (women), batuhan ng bola, and hilahan ng lubid.

The winners were awarded by Asst. Prof. Catherine Anecita, Chair of the Larong Pinoy, and Mr. Jayfel Conato of the Miagao LGU, during the UPV and Miagao Friendship Celebration closing program.

The traditional Pasipal format of pitting UPV teams against LGU teams was re-implemented for this year’s friendly games. Last year, players from both teams were pooled and grouped into two competing groups.

The players who represented UPV at the friendly games are part of the Ugyon group that claimed the throne as this year’s Pahampang overall champions.
