Olmix Philippines to recognize outstanding UPV-CFOS students

Exemplary students of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS) will be receiving a reward from Olmix Philippines.

Olmix Philippines, a multinational corporation that specializes in bio-solutions, algae-based alternatives, and natural additives for plant and animal health, collaborated with UPV to recognize CFOS students who have demonstrated academic excellence.

Olmix Group ASEAN manager Dr. Jose Nicandro C. Atienza and UPV Chancellor Clement C. Camposano signed two Memorandums of Agreement (MoAs) on behalf of the two institutions on February 19, 2024 at the New Admin Conference Room, UP Visayas, Miagao campus on award sponsorships.

The first agreement was for the UPV-CFOS Class Valedictorian. Under the MoA, Olmix Philippines as sponsor, will give a medal and a cash grant of P20,000 to the deserving top student for Academic Year 2023-2024.

Another partnership was on the Best Seaweed Thesis award, which aims to encourage UPV students to conduct seaweed-related research in areas such as basic science, algae application, and algal cultivation.

The competition is open to undergraduate students who are enrolled in the thesis courses for AY 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.

The recipient of this award will receive a medal and a cash grant of P40, 000.00.

Speaking on behalf of Olmix, Atienza thanked UPV for the collaboration, which he said, gave them an opportunity to give back.

“We are helping not only the student, but also the family to which the student belongs. Hopefully, Olmix will be able to move further with this collaboration. Thank you so much,” he concluded.

These initiatives were made possible through the efforts of the UPV-CFOS Seaweed Research and Innovation Group led by Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap and Asst. Prof. Iris Ann G. Borlongan.

CFOS dean Prof. Harold M. Monteclaro, Borlongan, Yap, and Olmix Philippines, Inc. territory manager Ma. Catherine Joyce S. Eusebio signed as witnesses to both agreements.

Also present during the MoA signing were members of the UPV-CFOS Seaweed Research and Innovation Group, namely Assoc. Prof. Victor Marco Emmanuel N. Ferriols, Asst. Prof. Jonalyn P. Mateo, and Asst. Prof. Leonilo F. Endoma, Jr.
