A transformative training to empower the youth of Iloilo City was conducted by the Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod (OCEP), UP Visayas on September 25, 2024 at the Training Rooms 1 & 2 of the Graduate and Continuing Education Building (GCEB), UP Visayas, Iloilo City campus.
Eighty-one (81) youths from Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) – Iloilo City, Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners and Opportunity 2.0 participants, took part in the half-day training.
The training on Inspiring Out-of-School Youth was an initiative under the Opportunity 2.0: Second chance opportunities for Out-of-School Youth of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The project was designed to address the educational, employment and livelihood needs of OSY in Iloilo City.
Topics covered in the training include Responsible Use of Social Media and Personal Marketing facilitated by Asst. Prof. John Lorenz R. Belanio and Asst. Prof. Ysabella P. Cainglet, respectively. Both were faculty members of the College of Management, UP Visayas. The training aims to equip the participants with essential knowledge and skills crucial to navigate the modern job market and build their personal brands.
Asst. Prof. Frediezel G. De Leon, Acting Director of OCEP warmly welcomed the participants. Mr. Jireh Alivio, Youth Development Officer of USAID Education Development Center (EDC); Mr. Angel L. De Leon, Jr., President of TSKI Institute, Ms. Iris F. Gulanes, Program Manager of USAID Opportunity 2.0 – TSKI Skills and Knowledge Institute, Inc.; Mr. Emerson Platon, PYAP Coordinator of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO); and Ms. Lorlyn Gregorios, ALS Instructional Manager, joined the event as key representatives.
To further enrich their learning experience, the participants were given the opportunity to tour around UPV Iloilo City campus, particularly at the Museum of Art and Cultural Heritage (MACH) to gain insights into their cultural and artistic endeavors.
