Inspiring Inclusive Leaders: A Seminar-Workshop Experience with Prof. Maquiran

September 28, 2024 – UP Visayas Little Theatre – Today marks the second installment of the UP Visayas Sibika Hub 2.0, featuring a lecture by Prof. Dominique Maquiran on Inclusive-Humanizing Youth Leadership. Prof. Maquiran delivered an insightful presentation, highlighting the critical importance of fairness and empathy in decision-making. He urged youth leaders from various institutions to integrate these values into their leadership practices, fostering a more inclusive environment for all.

During the lecture, Prof. Maquiran inspired participants from seven secondary schools within SDO-Iloilo to commit to acts of kindness at all times. He encouraged them to extend unconditional support to others, emphasizing the importance of doing so without discrimination. Prof. Maquiran firmly believes that a leader's actions reflect their leadership style, asserting that when guided by empathy and inclusivity, such actions can foster a more humanizing approach to leadership.

This afternoon, participants will participate in an enriching Cultural Tour led by Prof. Rene Trance, exploring notable landmarks in Iloilo City. The tour will include visits to the Iloilo Provincial Capitol, Iloilo Customs House, Plaza Libertad, and the Iloilo Masonic Temple, offering a deeper appreciation of the city's historical and cultural heritage.

The seminar-workshop features participation from several schools, including Jaro National High School, Mandurriao National High School, La Paz National High School, Iloilo City National High School, Ramon Avanceña National High School, Fort San Pedro National High School, and Jalandoni National High School, all contributing to this impactful initiative.

Sibika Hubs serve as dynamic resources, networks, and community centers that champion civic education and engagement. The Sibika Hub of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is supported by the Youth Leadership for Democracy (YouthLed), a joint initiative of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and The Asia Foundation.

This program aims to strengthen collaboration between UP Visayas and its partner schools within SDO-Iloilo, ensuring that the university's influence resonates with these institutions. The initiative seeks to provide valuable support in fostering youth development, promoting active citizenship, and deepening appreciation for history, ultimately contributing to the formation of well-rounded, civic-minded young leaders.
