Iloilo scientists and researchers bare findings in conference

The UPV Research Colloquium Committee, headed by Dr. Marshaley J. Baquiano, conducted a Research Colloquium on Wednesday, 13 February 2019 at the OCEP Training Rooms, UPV, Iloilo City. This was part of the celebration of the 72nd Anniversary of the UP Presence in Iloilo.

The said colloquium were attended by fifty-four (54) faculty members and students from the different universities and colleges of Iloilo City (University of San Agustin, Iloilo City Community College, St. Paul University of Iloilo, and University of the Philippines Visayas), University of Antique, and Guimaras State College.

Seven (7) resource persons presented their papers during this activity. The presentations were done by batch. The first batch of presenters were the following: Prof. George S. Ebay of the Center for Western Visayas Studies who presented a paper entitled “Pagbugtaw, Pagbangon, Kag Pagpabakud: Appraising Our Rootedness in Small Islands”, Prof. Early Sol A. Gadong of the UP High School in Iloilo who presented a paper on “The Community as Learning Laboratory, Public Service at the Heart of a Research-Based Learning-Centered Framework”, and Dr. Philip Ian P. Padilla of the College of Arts and Sciences - Division of Biological Sciences who talked about ‘Improving Health Outcomes in Western Visayas by Strengthening Leadership and Governance.”

The second batch of presenters composed of the following: Dr. Rhodella A. Ibabao of the Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod presented a paper on “Capacity Assessment of the Technical Working Groups for CDP Formulation”, Prof. Emeliza C. Lozada of the School of Technology spoke on the “Establishment of Rural Based Food Processing Enterprise”, Ms. Ernestina M. Peralta of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences – Institute of Fish Processing Technology talked on the “Potentials of Oyster Powder as a Potential Food Ingredient and Condiment”, and lastly, Dr. Rex Ferdinand M. Traifalgar of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences - Institute of Aquaculture presented a paper on the “Institute of Aquaculture Aquafeed Research: Laboratory Development to Industrial Field Trials”.

After each batch of presentations an open forum followed. Prof. Juhn Chris P. Espia and Prof. Moniq M. Muyargas were the moderators during the open forum.
