Familia CASadya from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) emerged as the champion of UP Bee, a fun game show which took place on 26 September 2023 at the UPV Auditorium, Iloilo City campus as part of the 76th Year of UP Presence in Iloilo celebration.
The champion bested seven other groups from other colleges and administrative offices, which include Familia CaMpion, Familia CASadya, Familia CFOSh Mo Yan, Familia SOTECHALON, Familia Bisiey-ey, Familia MaARTA, Familia OBeeCRE, and Familia OCseraPD. Each group was made up of five players, a combination of faculty, staff, students, alumni and retirees.
In second place is Familia CFOSh Mo Yan from the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. Familia CaMpion from the College of Management (CM) bagged the third place.
Familia CASadya received a cash prize of PhP10,000. Familia CFOSh Mo Yan received PhP7,500 and Familia CaMpion received PhP5,000. The cash prizes were awarded by Dr. Alice Joan Ferrer, dean of CAS; Atty. Christopher Honorario, dean of CM; and Chancellor Clement Camposano.
The much awaited event attracted a huge crowd composed of students, faculty, and staff from both Miagao and Iloilo City campuses.
Organized by CAS and CM, the UP Bee questions were divided into nine categories: food in UPV, transportation in UPV, school/academic life, dress code/ attire, enrollment process/ tuition rates, places/landmarks in UPV, academic programs, academic personalities, and famous UPV events.
Students, members of the faculty, staff, and some alumni were invited to answer a survey. The answers to the survey each had corresponding points. The game show participants get the corresponding points each time they give the correct answer. When they fail, however, the competing group can steal the chance to give an answer. If the answer is correct, the group will automatically get the score of its contender.
The UPV Statistical Society was responsible for collating all the replies to the survey.
UP Bee was hosted by Alfred Abalos and Andrei Tagapan, faculty members from the Department of Physical Education, CAS.
