The exhibition of artworks from the Lopez Museum and Library (LML) titled “The Patrimony of All (Ang Panublion sang Tanan): Paintings from the Lopez Museum and Library Collection” was formally launched at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Iloilo City campus on Nov. 25, 2024.
Through the Lopez Group Foundation, Inc. (LGFI), in partnership with the UPV Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) and the Iloilo City Government, works from the exemplars in Philippine art from the 19th century to the early 20th century are featured – paintings of Juan Luna, Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, Fernando Amorsolo, and Juan Arellano.
Inspired by the words of the quintessential hero Jose Rizal, the exhibition lives by the promise of Filipino artistic talent being the “patrimony of all.”
The exhibit which features 16 artworks is located at the UPV Museum of Art and Culture Heritage and will run until April 25, 2025. It is open to the public from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The initiative was also made possible through the efforts of political leaders former Senate President Franklin Drilon, Senator Loren Legarda, and Mayor Jerry Treñas, through the Iloilo City Government.
Present at launch to deliver their messages were UPV Chancellor Clement Camposano, Ms. Rosalie Treñas, former Senator Drilon, LGFI President Mercedes Lopez-Vargas, and exhibition curator Dr. Patrick Flores. Senator Legarda and UP President Angelo Jimenez likewise delivered video messages during the program.
