The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) community has once again successfully shared its love for its barangay relocation communities last Christmas season. Barangays Lumangan and Malagyan in Miagao held the annual gift-giving activities for the children of the relocation centers through the generous donations from the UPV community last December 14, 2023.
As part of the UPV Paskua 2023 celebration, 100 children of Brgy. Malagyan and 130 children of Brgy. Lumangan were given toys, gift packs, and food packs. The Barangay officials headed by Punong Barangay Brian Murillo of Malagyan and Punong Barangay Angelito Ninal, Jr. of Lumangan facilitated the program for the kids. The sub-committee members for the relocation sites 1 and 2 gift-giving represented the University in each of these community events.
The cash gift of the UPV administration worth P17,500 was turned over to the recipient barangays during the Illumination Ceremony at the Miagao campus last December 5, 2023 to fund these activities. In addition, the faculty, staff, and alumni pooled funds for the gift-giving.
The UPV Employees' Cooperative also handed out hygiene kits for Brgy. Malagyan and school supplies for Brgy. Lumangan as part of their community service program.
This gift-giving activity aims to embody Paskua 2023’s theme: To drift towards a happy and peaceful Christmas, by sharing simple joys to these children.
