The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) recognized 66 honorific scholars during the face-to-face Pagpasidungog, the College’s recognition program held at the AV Hall, CFOS, UP Visayas Miagao campus on July 19, 2022.
Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap, dean of CFOS, led the distribution of the certificates to the academic awardees for Academic Year 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. She was assisted by Assoc. Prof. Liah C. Catedrilla, PhD., College Secretary, CFOS.
Yap expressed her gratitude to the students whom she considers as the College’s partner for the development of the fisheries sector and in the service to the fisheries society in the country.
She underscored the contribution of the students to the achievements of CFOS amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We could not make it through the pandemic without you. We were able to achieve more and make you graduate on time because of you. Thank you for your support,” the Dean said.
Assoc. Prof. Victor Marco Emmanuel N. Ferriols, PhD., a faculty member of the Institute of Aquaculture, CFOS and director of Philippine Genome Center - Visayas, addressed the student awardees as well.
A magna cum laude graduate of UPV-CFOS, Ferriols emphasized the true meaning of being honorific in his speech.
He challenged the honor graduates to make use of their knowledge and skills to serve the Filipino people after they leave the University. He said what matters is “not what we know, but what we do with what we know.”
The Pagpasidungog 2022 was made possible through the Office of the College Secretary of CFOS in cooperation with the UPV College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences Student Council.
