Dr. Farisal Bagsit of the University of the Philippines Visayas College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (UPV-CFOS) is the new director of the Ugnayan ng Pahinungod/Oblation Corps effective June 1, 2022.
Bagsit was the coordinator of the UPV Office of Anti-Sexual Harassment from January 2021 to May 2022 and is currently the Coordinator for Instruction at the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies (IFPDS) under CFOS.
Prior to her becoming an assistant professor for CFOS, she had extensive experience in research, functioning as a University Research Associate and eventually, a University Researcher for the IFPDS.
She also served as a graduate research assistant from 2016 to 2020 at the Institute for Coastal Science and Policy’s Coastal Resources Management Program of East Carolina University, where she finished her Ph.D. in Coastal Resources Management in 2020.
She was an ambassador for the International Student Ambassadors Program and the Graduate School Ambassador Program at the said university.
During her time there, Bagsit was a volunteer for clean-ups, post hurricane recovery operations, and a food-packing activity, among others.
She was also project/team leader for several research engagements of the UP System, UPV, and offices under the Department of Science and Technology.
She finished her Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (major in Marine Fisheries) and Master of Marine Affairs degrees at UPV in 2000 and 2004, respectively.
The Ugnayan ng Pahinungod/Oblation Corps is the flagship volunteer service program of the university.
Bagsit’s appointment as director of the said office is from June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2025.
