CM marketing students win in L’Oréal Brandstorm National Finals

The College of Management, UP Visayas once again made it to the national finals of this year’s Brandstorm Innovation Competition. Team Bellus, composed of 4th year Business Administration (Marketing) students Abigail Vivien Avillanosa, Rizza Dianne Abaygar, and Mary Kei Escoto, made it to the top 8 competing teams in the National Finals of the competition held on April 12, 2018 at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas, Manila.

UPV-CFOS prof presents paper, conducts research in Japan

Dr. Marco Victor Emmanuel Ferriols, professor of the Institute of Aquaculture (IA), College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas (UPV), presented a paper at the 2018 Japanese Society of Fisheries Science (JSFS) spring meeting at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Tokyo, Japan on March 26-30, 2018.

Ferriol’s paper is entitled “Investigation into the substrates involved in highly branched isoprenoid biosynthesis in Rhizosolenia setigera.” During the JSFS meeting, Ferriols connected with the Japanese researchers particularly from Kochi University, The University of Tokyo, and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology and discussed possible research collaboration with UPV on algae.

Alama attends taxonomical specimen collection training in Malaysia

Mr. Ulysses B. Alama, administrative staff of the Museum of Natural Sciences (MNS), College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas (UPV) attended a two-day training-workshop on “Collection Building and Management of Taxonomical Specimens” held at the Center for Marine and Coastal Studies, Penang, Malaysia on March 8-9, 2018.

The training aimed at equipping the participants with knowledge on basic methods on marine invertebrate collection building as well as management of taxonomical specimens. It also aimed at enhancing the capabilities of participants from various institutions on the effective management of taxonomical specimens for the study of taxonomy and biodiversity in the future.
