It was a memorable reunion—30 years in the making—when pioneer students from the UP Visayas-Miagao campus gathered for an intimate Christmas get-together at the Bonifacio Global City recently, three decades after graduating from college and leaving the august halls of their Alma Mater. Attendees were those whose student numbers start from 86 to 90. The group did not only look back at the fun times, but they also looked forward and discussed programs and activities that can support UP Visayas.

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is a Game Changer Awardee of the 2022 Capacity Development Awards for Catalysts of Excellence (CapDev ACE) Accelerator Awards, spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Local Government Academy. The Game Changer Award is a national level recognition of a completed program or project initiated by an institutional partner that has left a lasting impact on LGUs and has contributed to the achievement of the DILG program outcome areas.

Through the Auxiliary Services Office (ASO), UP Visayas was able to raise funds for a Christmas gift pack for 180 agency-hired personnel of the university (104 agency guards and 76 janitors). The gift packs contain a spaghetti pack, canton noodles, and candies. For years now they have been receiving 3-in-1 coffee through fund drives and the gift pack this year is a departure from the usual tradition.

“Thank you UPV Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness Committee for seeing us through the pandemic,” UPV Chancellor Clement Camposano said during his short message for the awarding of winners for the Christmas Fun Run. The Chancellor was referring to the various events that the Committee organized for the past two years such as the virtual run and virtual walk, dance movements, and Zoom lecture forums on: the COVID-19 vaccines, self-care for mental wellness, understanding and managing the transition of menopause and andropause.
