UP Visayas is DILG CapDev ACE Accelerator awardee

UP Visayas is DILG CapDev ACE Accelerator awardee

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) is a Game Changer Awardee of the 2022 Capacity Development Awards for Catalysts of Excellence (CapDev ACE) Accelerator Awards, spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) – Local Government Academy. The Game Changer Award is a national level recognition of a completed program or project initiated by an institutional partner that has left a lasting impact on LGUs and has contributed to the achievement of the DILG program outcome areas.

The CapDev Accelerator Awards is a recognition program of the DILG, which acknowledges the valuable contributions of partners and stakeholders in accelerating the realization of its goals and achieving excellence in local governance.

Chancellor Clement Camposano, accompanied by DILG Western Visayas Regional Director Juan Jovian Ingeniero and Assistant Regional Director Maria Calpiza Sardua, received the award for UPV during the awarding ceremony, held on December 13, 2022, in Manila.

One major contribution of UPV that led to the award was the State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) Approach for Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) Formulation: An Expansion Project from Western Visayas, which is a spin-off of the pilot project SUC-assisted Approach in CDP Formulation, a social media post by DILG Western Visayas said. In 2021, UP Visayas was the recipient of DILG’s CapDev Accelerator Award for the SUC-Assisted Approach in CDP Formulation project.

Funded by the Support to Local Governance Program (SLGP), the said project included capacity development interventions for 20 target LGUs and the establishment of a Management Information System (MIS) for CDP as the databank of local government units (LGUs) in developing their Ecological Profiles.

The post further said that the MIS, after the completion of the project to the 20 LGUs, was expanded to 133 LGUs in Western Visayas. An offshoot of the program was that UPV was able to develop policy papers on local governance by undergraduate students whose papers could be further developed into full blown papers for publication to DILG’s journal.

It added that for the past nine years, the University provided unrelenting effort in sustaining the partnership.

Further, UPV is one of the founding members of the Western Visayas Local Governance Resource Consortium. (With a report from DILG-6 and R. Ibabao)
