Professors from the Yokohama National University (YNU), Japan, visited the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) last March 6, 2025. Dr. Takayuki Suzuki, Professor, and Dr. Hiroto Higa, Associate Professor, both from the Estuaries & Coastal Engineering Laboratory in the Civil Engineering Department at YNU, took part in a series of activities at UPV.
Dr. Suzuki and Dr. Higa participated in the activities of the 39th Foundation Celebration of the School of Technology (SOTECH), UPV. Dr. Suzuki shared valuable knowledge with the SOTECH students through a research presentation on coastal engineering at the Research Forum. Meanwhile, both Dr. Suzuki and Dr. Higa served as judges for the 3-Minute Research Pitch Competition of the students.
In the afternoon, the visiting professors paid a courtesy call to Chancellor Clement Camposano, accompanied by Dr. Johannes Magpusao, Dean of SOTECH, and Dr. Joemel Sumbing, Assistant Professor at SOTECH. They also visited the Regional Research Center (RRC), where they were given a tour of the laboratories.
The visit concluded with a tour along the Miagao shoreline near UPV, where the visiting professors observed the ongoing seawall construction project.
