The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Arnis Team made a remarkable debut at the recent Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (RSCUAA) 2024 sports festival, securing multiple medals and demonstrating their skills and dedication in Arnis.
Despite competing with only 13 players for two events – Individual Anyo Women's Category and Labanan Padded Stick – the team showcased a striking performance, leading to a multiple podium finish.
During the Anyo competition, Jeanrie Lozada earned a bronze in the Individual Traditional Anyo category - Single Baston for her precise and graceful sword movements. Meanwhile, in the Labanan Padded Stick competition, Angela Bianca Elano spearheaded the charge, clinching the silver medal in the women’s extra lightweight category with flawless timing and speed. Attilah Karim Dacayan also earned silver in the men's heavyweight category, showcasing his strength and technical prowess. Furthermore, Angel Rose Valencia displayed exceptional composure and skill to secure the bronze medal in the women’s pin weight category. Sophia Novillas continued the team’s success, winning bronze in the women’s middleweight category with her speed and agility.
The rest of the team members also demonstrated incredible strength and passion, representing UPV with pride and determination. The Arnis team members included Seth Leander Caballero, John Matthew Fallarme, Carlo Joshua De Lemos, Ezrah Gino, Karl David Maglunob, Kristian Tribiana, Krztian Angelo Tenorio, and Ma Ninna Flores and was coached by Ms. Neve Fairuza P.
