UPV lantern parade and Christmas program cap Paskua 2023 celebration

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) lantern parade, an iconic annual tradition of the University spanning several decades, once again brought together UPV constituents in a colorful showcase of creativity and ingenuity on 20 December 2023, Miagao campus. 

Members of the faculty, University administrators, staff, students, parents, and alumni joined the long line of the parade, which convened at the open grounds fronting the New Admin and the Old SOTECH buildings. The parade participants joined their respective colleges or units, and at the forefront was Chancellor Clement Camposano, who was joined by the Central Admin personnel. The Central Admin was followed by the Graduate School (GS), College of Management (CM), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), School of Technology (SOTECH), College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), alumni, and University-wide student organizations. 

Guided by the theme “Hilway nga Pagpanakayon Padulong sa Malipayon kag Mahidaiton nga Paskwa,” competing colleges highlighted their respective big lanterns, handheld lanterns, and lantern parade performances. The parade ended at the UPV Covered Court, the venue of the Christmas program. 

The program opened with an electrifying production number that showcased the mascots and dancers from the various competing groups. Prof. Encarnacion Emilia Yap, Dean of CFOS and Chair of the Paskua 2023 Steering Committee, welcomed everyone during her speech. Chancellor Camposano gave his Christmas message prior to the community dinner. 

Sughout the program. Adding to the excitement of the audience was the UPV Sing and Dance Caroling Contest, which was one ofpecial performances from Alpha Phi Omega, UPV Intermedius, UPV Choristers, UP Daebak, UP Khoryu, and UP Rhapsody entertained everyone thro the highlights of the evening. The students also looked forward to the presentation of the Christmas Tree of Hope, which intends to raise funds for a noble cause. 

Hosted by Inaj Mae Abalajon, Carlson Alelis, Wendy Balinario, and Rodjem Jontilano, the program ended with a community singing led by members of the UPV Choristers.
