Vice-Chancellor for Administration John Lorenz R. Belanio, in collaboration with the Human Resources Development Office (HRDO) and the Digital Innovation Center (Visayas), organized a series of in-person training workshops on Alternative Video Conferencing Tools at UPV Miagao and Iloilo City Campuses. This is in preparation for the shift of UP to other alternative tools for online meetings and events in case Zoom will not renew its contract. The workshop series was conducted every Wednesday (August 2, 9, 16, and 23).
The primary objective of the training workshop is to equip employees with the necessary knowledge and skills in utilizing alternative video conferencing tools comparable to Zoom in terms of features. It was a half-day workshop conducted in eight batches. A total of 115 employees attended the workshop series, composed of faculty administrators, unit heads, administrative officers, guidance services specialists, dormitory managers, station heads, and secretaries of several standing committees.
Mr. Wilfredo L. Palete, Computer Maintenance Technologist III of the Digital Innovation Center-Visayas, was the resource speaker. He introduced the features of Webex (Cisco), Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams as alternative video conferencing tools. Mr. Jasper N. Novilla and Mr. Junie C. Paguntalan, Technical Staff from DIC, provided hands-on assistance during the workshop. Mr. Ralph Reuben Mueda of HRDO served as the emcee/facilitator.
The orientation and hands-on training are expected to help officials and employees overcome their apprehensions, confidently face the challenges, and experience seamless virtual interactions using the new online platforms.
