UPV earns first-ever table tennis medal in RSCUAA 2024

Josh Joel Tanchuan of the UPV Table Tennis Team claimed third place in the Men’s Singles A category at the 2024 RSCUAA meet last December 18.

Tanchuan’s campaign featured a thrilling neck-to-neck battle against the University of Antique (UA), a reverse sweep against West Visayas State University (WVSU), and a 3-1 victory over Northern Iloilo State University (NISU). His run ended in the semifinals with a hard-fought 1-3 loss to Capiz State University (CAPSU).

The entire UPV Table Tennis team also displayed a strong performance overall. Marielle Ronzales advanced to the quarterfinals in the Women’s Singles A category. John Richard Carl Ares, Ian Miguel Grefaldeo, Justine Bryle Repollo, Ma. Ashlae Jane Molina, Buenzel Marie Monot, and Angel Michaela Talidano also contributed to the team’s success, showcasing UPV’s growing competitiveness in the regional table tennis scene.

The team extends its gratitude to their dedicated coaches, Asst. Prof. Fernando S. Tinagan and Beverly N. Genoveza, as well as the trainers, Coach Duffy Manuel Guarizo and Coach Nemar Palabrica. The team also thanks the University for providing them the opportunity to participate in the RSCUAA, fostering their growth and passion for the sport.
