The BS Fisheries (BSF) program of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences is the first degree program of UP Visayas that received the prestigious ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Certification.
CFOS received the final result of the AUN-QA accreditation of the BSF program on January 12, 2023.
The report stated that the BSF has fulfilled the requirements of the AUN-QA criterion and has successfully passed the online assessment rated at the program level.
The certification proves that the BSF of UPV-CFOS complies with the global academic standards and is at par with those offered by other premier ASEAN universities in the network.
The BSF is the first program in UPV that underwent a thorough AUN-QA assessment. It is one of the four programs that were assessed by AUN-QA in its 304th programme assessment in UPV and UP Los Baños, conducted last November 21 to 25, 2022. The BSF was assessed by Prof. Dr. Herman Parung of the Department of Civil Engineering of Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pakorn Watanachaturaporn of the Department of Computer Engineering of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand.
The assessment is focused on eight criteria of the AUN-QA Model at the program level: expected learning outcomes, program specification, program structure and content, teaching and learning approach, student assessment, academic staff quality, support staff quality, student quality and support, facilities and infrastructure, quality enhancement, and output.
The University of the Philippines (UP) is one of the member universities of the ASEAN University Network, an association of Asian universities.
The AUN-QA was initiated to harmonize the educational standards and seek continuous improvement of academic quality of the universities in the ASEAN.
As one of the constituent units of UP, UPV pursued the AUN accreditation of its academic programs to restructure its education system to be competitive with other schools in the ASEAN region. More of its academic programs are being set for evaluation in the upcoming years.
