UPV and Philippine Army heads meet to further understanding

Chancellor Clement Camposano welcomed the 301st Brigade of the Philippine Army led by its Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Marion R. Sison at the UPV Miagao campus on April 19, 2021. The meeting was part of the thrust of the UPV administration to promote mutual understanding between institutions and establish lines of communication between UP Visayas and the military establishment.

The Chancellor has always emphasized that good communication and dialogue will allow UPV and the military, as well as law enforcement agencies, to avoid unnecessary problems as they pursue their respective mandates.

The guests were given a tour of the UPV research facilities at the Miagao campus, which included the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences Research Facility and Hatchery Laboratory, and the Philippine Genome Center. Institute of Aquaculture Director Rex Traifalgar and PGC Director Noel Ferriols gave briefings on the research activities being undertaken in the facilities. Following the tour, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Harold Monteclaro gave the guests a rundown of UPV research and creative work projects.

During the discussions that followed, the Chancellor emphasized that the University will always take a stand in support of human rights as well as the rights of indigenous communities. He likewise pointed out that the University is always ready to assist other institutions of government, particularly local government units, especially in areas where its capabilities and resources can make a difference in the lives of marginalized communities.

UPV has been working with the Department of the Interior and Local Government on a number of projects such as the upgrade of the Management Information System (DILG-UPV MIS) for Region 6, SUC-Assisted Approach in the formulation of the Comprehensive Development Plan, among others.

The 301st Infantry (Bayanihan) Brigade headed by Brig. Gen. Sison is based in Dingle, Iloilo. The other Army officers in the delegation led by Gen. Sison included Lt. Col. Joel Benedict Batara, Jr., Major Cenon Pancito, Capt. Hazel Durotan and Lt. Olick Salayo.
