In preparation for the annual call up of the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) this year and its first division journal publication, the UPV Action Research Project (UPV ARP) conducted a training-workshop on the adoption of the new appraisal tools for research proposal and completed research output among teacher-researchers and teacher-innovators of the Department of Education – Schools Division of Aklan (DepEd SDO- Aklan) last 25-27 May 2023 at Hotel Metro Sky Bar and Restaurant, Kalibo, Aklan.
The new appraisal tools were products of the ongoing collaboration between UPV and DepEd Region VI. It aims to help division researchers, innovators, and evaluators fine-tune research outputs to enable them to make better decisions, come up with better programs, and find the areas for improvement. It is also a product of the department’s call to institutionalize quality control in accepting BERF funded research, archiving research outputs, and identifying technical assistance for researchers/grantees.
The activity included lecture sessions, group dynamics, hands-on evaluation, presentation of outputs, and a feedbacking session. It was spearheaded by the UPV ARP managers, Asst. Prof. Jeena A. Amoto and Ms. Elna Mariel M. Nanta, and assisted by Asst. Prof. Early Sol A. Gadong and Mr. Prabhat Ranjan B. Ubas.
Dr. Feliciano C. Buenafe, Jr. CESO VI, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd SDO – Aklan, delivered a message during the opening program. He challenged the participants to be engaged in the process of becoming “active movers” not merely “plain consumers” of new knowledge.
The activity was attended by district research and innovation coordinators, division evaluators, selected division personnel and selected school heads. The activity was organized by the Schools Governance and Operations Division (SGOD) headed by its Chief Education Supervisor Mr. Michael T. Rapiz with his Senior Education Program Specialist for Planning and Research Dr. Darren N. Naelgas.
The training-workshop ended with a promise from the UPV ARP team to help the Schools Division with its streamlining process and dissemination mechanisms to be scheduled this year.
