UPHSI alumnus donates relief sculpture for the UPV Art Collection

The Office of Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) received a donation of a wood relief sculpture from UP High School alumnus Anthony Castillo on 6 March 2023.

The work titled Maskarado Series IV is made of stained mahogany wood. The 29 x 10x 2 inches artwork is consistent with Castillo’s psychosocially-themed oeuvres.

Castillo hails from Mandurriao, Iloilo City. He finished his secondary education from UP High School Iloilo in 1993. He studied Psychology at the University of San Agustin.

He joined UPV Teatro Amakan in 1992 and was the lead dancer in Apik, the dance drama choreographed by National Artist Agnes Locsin and directed by retired UPV professor Ed Defensor that was presented in Melbourne, Australia. He is also a member of the Validus Amicitia fraternity.

Since his debut as artist in 2007, Castillo has also been doing sculpture in wood. He had two solo exhibitions, drawings in 2007 and photographs installation in 2014, in the old UPV Art Gallery.

Martin Genodepa, OICA Director, received the artwork on behalf of the University after the gift was formalized through the signing of the Deed of Donation.
