SOTECH conducts its first in-person opening program in 2 years

MIAGAO, ILOILO - The School of Technology of the University of the Philippines Visayas, conducted its very first Opening Program with students after two years of doing it remotely. The event was conducted last September 6, 2022, at the UPV Covered Court with all its students, faculty, and staff.

The program was organized by the steering committee headed by the faculty, together with the SOTECH Student Council. The participants were welcomed by the Dean, Engr. Ramer P. Bautista, Ph.D., who also gave a message to the students. 

The event consisted of different presentations of the different academic programs of the school and its student organizations. The Bachelor of Science in Food Technology program was presented by Dr. Johannes Magpusao, the newly appointed Program Coordinator. The Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering was presented by Mr. John Salvador Ricacho, in the stead of Engr. Dennis Ong, Ph.D. Engr. Ong is also the newly appointed Program Coordinator of the BS in Chemical Engineering program. 

Finally, among the presenters of the academic programs, Dr. Jihan Santanina Alumbro presented the Master of Science in Food Science program, which is the newest academic program implemented by SOTECH. Just like the others, Dr. Alumbro is the newly appointed Program Coordinator of the said program.

The student organizations were also presented by their representatives, namely Meluny L. Bregabiel, Alyssa Camille B. Intoy, and Alyssa Lakhsmi M. Maranan, for the Student Council, Philippine Association of Food Technologists - Iota Chapter (PAFT-i), OUNCES and SEB, respectively. 

The crowd was also entertained by a few talented students of the school. Lee Roi C. Alano, Kylah Marei E. Gesulga, sang a duet of their own rendition of “I See the Light,” popularized by the hit animated film “Tangled.” Guitarist Hannah Bella C. Magalona and vocalist Audrey Luanne B. Adarga also gave their own rendition of the songs “Open Arms” by Journey and “Careless Whisper” by George Michael.

The program was closed by a message from Engr. Francis Eric Almaquer, who is currently the College Secretary of SOTECH. The program was hosted by Mr. Janreich F. Miramon, a faculty of the Food Technology program.
