Retired UPV-CFOS faculty is newly appointed member of PRB of Fisheries

Another retired faculty member of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS), was appointed member of the Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) of Fisheries.

Dr. Gerald F. Quinitio formally took oath as the newly appointed member of the Board in a virtual ceremony on March 9, 2022. Hon. Teofilo S. Pilando Jr., the chairperson of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), administered the oath-taking.

Quinitio’s appointment was issued and signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on March 4, 2022, in place of Dr. Cesario R. Pagdilao. He will serve for a term of three (3) years.

Quinitio was an associate professor of the Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology (IMFO), UPV-CFOS. He retired on June 26, 2019, after 13 years of dedicated service to the University. 

Earlier, Dr. Carlos C. Baylon, former dean and a retired professor of the Institute of Aquaculture, UPV-CFOS, took oath as a member of the Board on February 28, 2022.

Along with other members of the Board, Quinitio and Baylon are empowered to promulgate, adopt, and issue rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of RA 11398, otherwise known as the Philippine Fisheries Profession Act. They will also administer and supervise the licensure examination for admission to the practice of the fisheries profession as well as regulate the licensure, registration, and practice of the fisheries profession, among other things.
