A necrological service and memorial service were organized by the UP Visayas Department of Physical Education as a tribute to Prof. Jocelyn Pacheco at Pidlaoan Hall, UP Visayas Miagao, Iloilo, on July 10, 2023.
A mass preceded the necrological service with a liturgy presided over by Rev. Fr. Ricardo Iniego. University officials, VCA Lorenz Belanio and VCPD Rhodella Ibabao, led the UPV constituents in honoring the professor, who served the institution for more than 30 years. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Philip Ian Padilla sent a video message of her remembrance. Prior to the service, Chancellor Camposano offered condolences to the family.
Prof. Pacheco was remembered in the eulogies as a caring and dedicated teacher to her students. Representatives of Batch '97, the pioneer batch of students that Prof. Pacheco had with UPV, were represented by Mr. Ryan Mark Pelaez and Mr. Rene Trance. She was much valued as a teacher of swimming, even teaching other faculty members and staff as well as their children. More than these, she has endeared herself as a friend to many of them outside of the classrooms.
Her colleagues Prof. Carmelie Sumagpao and Prof. Maria Amalia Decagon talked about the years and moments they shared as faculty members of the PE department. Ms. Fe Albarece-Paguntalan and Dr. Jade Catalan, in a video, relived memories spent with her and put in good words for Prof. Pacheco. Ms. Anna Razel Ramirez also shared the fun moments as movie fans.
A niece of Prof. Pacheco gave a message of gratitude to those who came to honor the life of the one faculty member who has touched the lives of her students through her teaching.
Prof. Brenda Lynn Arroyo responded and acknowledged the attendees in behalf of the department.
Prof. Pacheco’s remains was brought to Patnongon, Antique for the final funeral rites on July 15, 2023.
