The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development under Prof. Rhodella A. Ibabao and the Performance Management Team concluded their two-day workshop yesterday, 02 March 2023, titled Enhancing the Performance Measures of UP Visayas in Academic, Research, and Extension using the GAA-Performance Indicators for FY 2023 - FY 2024.
Ibabao presented the rationale of the workshop on the first day. The activity aimed to clarify the interpretation of indicators, requirements, and computation related to academics, research, and extension. Furthermore, it was designed to assist the colleges in improving targets and to engage the colleges/ offices to understand the performance indicators.
Additionally, the participants were expected to review the performance indicators of academic targets for higher education and advanced education programs; identify research, creative works, and outstanding academic programs for knowledge-based public service and extension programs; and harmonize and synchronize research, creative works, public service, and extension across colleges and with the programs/ projects of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension.
Dr. Rolly Fuentes, a faculty member of the Division of Natural Science and Mathematics, UP Visayas Tacloban College, facilitated the workshop. He is currently the appointed Focal Person for the 2023 Performance Measures. One of his primary tasks is to collaborate with the UPV Performance Management Team (PMT) in engaging the Deliver Units (DUs) to understand the performance indicators and the deliverables to meet the targets together with the required supporting data or documents.
A total of 75 participants attended the workshop coming from various offices and colleges, including the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), School of Technology (SOTECH), College of Management (CM), Graduate School, and UPV Tacloban College.
Also present during the workshop were Dr. Philip Ian Padilla, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; Dr. Harold Monteclaro, Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension, who discussed the UPV Research, Creative Works, and Extension Agenda; and Prof. John Lorenz Belanio, Vice Chancellor for Administration, who gave the closing message.
“Since the Performance Management Team was formed, various concerns were raised and we slowly unravel the many interpretations of the performance indicators, the lack of standard forms, setting of low targets, among others. This activity and the next ones are organized as an exercise and our way of affirming our commitment to perform our unique and distinctive leadership in higher education and development and to harness the expertise of our academic community,” Belanio said.
