OCEP conducts orientation–forum on RA 10912: The Continuing Professional Development Act of 2016

The Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod (OCEP) organized an orientation forum on RA 10912, known as the Continuing Professional Development Act of 2016 last 27 June 2024 at the Audio Visual Room of the Graduate and Continuing Education Building, UP Visayas (UPV), Iloilo City campus. This activity was organized in response to the Memorandum Circular No. 07 Series of 2017 by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), calling for all government agencies to apply for accreditation as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provider. 

Participated in by thirty five (35) faculty members, research staff, and professional staff from the different colleges and units of UPV, the orientation-forum was organized to discuss the provisions of RA 10912, specifically focusing on how UPV can become an accredited CPD provider. 

The orientation-forum started with a warm welcome from Chancellor Clement C. Camposano via video recording, where he highlighted that UPV istransforming itself from a mere provider of higher education services into a leading exponent of education for public service. Chancellor Camposano also reminded the participants that the services provided by UPV should always bear what is often called Tatak UP - Honor and Excellence in the Service of the Nation. 

Mr. Edmar U. Robles, Professional Regulations Officer II, and Ms. Mary Grace Catalan, Senior Professional Regulations Officer of PRC Regional Field Office 6, discussed the salient provisions of the CPD Act and its implementation. Both emphasized the guidelines and processes involved in becoming an accredited CPD provider. 

Ms. Rowelle L. Serilo, CPA, faculty member of the Department of Accounting, College of Management, on the other hand, shared her experiences as a Focal Person for Accountancy. She provided practical insights on the challenges and successes on the accreditation process and procedures in providing CPD trainings for the Council of Accountancy. It should be noted that UPV has been an accredited CPD provider for the Council of Accountancy of the PRC for a period of three (3) years from 2022 - 2025. 

Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Prof. Emilia Encarnacion S. Yap concluded the event by underscoring the importance of continuous professional development among UPV faculty and personnel and the University's important role in providing CPD-accredited training. She also expressed gratitude to the resource persons and participants for their active engagement.
