Officials from the National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU) gave a lecture and presented scholarships and internship opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students of UP Visayas (UPV).
Prof. Dr. Yu-Wei Chang, Dean of International Affairs of NTOU, visited the campus last October 30, 2024 with his staff and MS students.
A food science professor, Chang conducted a lecture-workshop on molecular gastronomy to enhance the knowledge and skills of the students in this field.
Attended by students, REPS, and faculty from CFOS and School of Technology, the activity was held at the Seafood Processing Laboratory of the Institute of Fish Processing Technology (IFPT), CFOS, UPV, Miagao campus.
The activity was organized by IFPT in partnership with Seafood PRIME (Product Research, Innovation, Marketing and Entrepreneurship) Laboratories.
Chang introduced the principles and application of spherification, an innovative molecular gastronomy technique, in food science and fisheries.
The visitors likewise introduced the internship and scholarship opportunities available at NTOU.
In his welcome message, CFOS dean Prof. Dr. Harold M. Monteclaro underscored the long-standing partnership between UPV and NTOU that began in 2017.
Monteclaro expressed his willingness to expand and deepen the cooperation. He divulged some plans that the two institutions could collaborate on.
IFPT director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rhoda Mae C. Simora stated that this international engagement is one of their top priorities. She also hoped for a stronger and continued research and academic cooperation with NTOU.
UPV, through the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), established the relationship with NTOU when the first MOU was inked in 2017.
Both have been engaged in student-faculty exchanges and research collaborations.
NTOU students have been participating in the summer internship program at CFOS while the latter has been sending graduate students to the former to carry out their graduate thesis.
The agreement was renewed on August 23, 2022.
