As the information technology organization of UP Visayas, the Digital Innovation Center (DIC) is responsible in implementing programs and projects that best respond to the technology and digital innovation requirements of the University.
With an allocated budget of Php3.2 million, the DIC proposed the construction of the Network Operation Centers (NOC) in the Miagao and Iloilo City campuses in response to the university’s aim to upgrade and rehabilitate the existing network infrastructure alongside its research facilities across various. These are in addition to the existing operational server room at the GCEB at the Iloilo City campus and the Network Operation Room at the Old Administration Building, Miagao campus which serve as the main distribution line of network in each campus.
The project started in October 21, 2023 and was substantially completed in July 2024. The construction is supervised by the Campus Development and Maintenance Office (CDMO).
The newly-established centers will serve as a centralized hub for complex information technology operations and network infrastructure, functioning as the primary distribution and backup facility for the oversight and administration of network systems and performance, as well as facilitating the resolution of communication challenges and other complications that may impede the reliability of network operations, thereby ensuring the comprehensive performance and accessibility of the network. Furthermore, these centers will accommodate additional network infrastructure and equipment, including routers, switches, wireless systems, firewalls, and various other network devices, all of which are integral components of the projects currently implemented by the DIC.
The construction of NOCs is part of the Php63 million UPV priority projects for the UP Visayas Network Infrastructure: One UPV Campuses and Research Facilities proposed by DIC headed by Asst. Prof. Rhea J. Subong-Espina. The project proposal was approved by the UP Board of Regents on February 24, 2022 and funded through UP System Administration under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration, Asst. Prof. John Lorenz Belanio, and ChanceIlor Clement C. Camposano.
