The Second Year MEd ESL students of the University of the Philippines Visayas organized and conducted the first of a two-part Seminar Series titled "The Congruence of Supervision and Leadership: Keys to Effective Institutional Management" on July 13, 2024 at the Graduate and Continuing Education Building (GCEB) Training Rooms 1 and 2, UPV Campus Iloilo City from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Offered free of charge, the Seminar Series was participated in by 100 teachers and education students from both private and public sectors. This is a class project of MEd ESL II students in the course EDL 261 (Supervision of Bilingual Education). Selected students from this class also served as Resource Speakers.
The Day 1 session revolved around the theme "Supervision: Tasks, Challenges, and Opportunities" with Dr. Shena Faith M. Ganela, Director III of the Philippine Science High School Western Visayas Campus serving as Guest Speaker. Her talk was followed by a lecture on “Developing Curriculum and Organizing for Instruction” by Ariane O. Panigbatan of the Philippine Science High School Western Visayas Campus.
The afternoon sessions included a lecture on "Providing Staff, Facilities, and Materials" delivered by Lucile B. Solacito of the Sta. Barbara Central Elementary School. Afterward, Ma. Criselda A. Donasco of Banate National High School lectured about "Arranging for In-Service Education and Orienting Staff Members." As the fourth Resource Speaker for Day 1, Joysa Mae O. Arban of the Northern Iloilo State University Lemery Campus conducted a session on "Relating Special Pupil Services."
Each lecture was followed by workshop activities that encouraged participants to share their experiences from their teaching contexts.
Day 2 of the Seminar Series is scheduled for July 27, 2024. It will focus on "Pre-and In-Service Leadership and Supervisory Roles" and will feature as Guest Speaker Dr. Myrna B. Libutaque, Assistant Chief of the Curriculum and Instruction Division for Student Affairs of the Philippine Science High School Western Visayas Campus.
The MEd ESL II students urge everyone to continue understanding the value of supervision and leadership across different educational contexts to ensure the learners' academic success.
