“I thought of retiring from UP Visayas when the pandemic hit. Then this opening of vacancy as Chief of the Supply, Property & Services Office came up. I was encouraged to apply, and I gave it a shot because, in my heart, I believe that I can still ably serve the university. So here I am.”
Prof. Emeliza C. Lozada, former Dean and faculty member of the School of Technology, has this to say on being appointed as the new Chief of SPSO effective September 22, 2021.
As a three-termer Dean of SoTech from 2010 to 2019, Lozada is no stranger to administrative responsibilities but is a seasoned administrator. She was responsible for boosting the morale of SoTech when it transferred to what is now the new site. The area seemed far and inaccessible because it used to be a forest with no access road, but Lozada managed to make everyone see that this was a ‘change’ that they could look forward to. Lozada has also served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the UPV Employees Cooperative. As former Chair of the UPV Bids and Awards Committee, she is familiar with the inner workings of SPSO, especially in the buying and acquiring of the more expensive supplies, materials, and equipment needed by the university.
From a faculty administrator to now a full-time administrator, Lozada said that her first order of business was to strengthen the core function of SPSO through communication and implementation of the best operational practices.
“I will also seek the support of the administration to upgrade or update the resources of the unit for efficient delivery of services,” she added.
