‘Dog Eaters' premiers at UPV Cinematheque

“Dog Eaters,” a short film directed and written by Prof. Kevin Piamonte of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) College of Arts and Sciences – Division of Humanities (HumDiv), premiered at the UPV Cinematique on June 17, 2022.

The film is based on “The Dog Eaters,” the Palanca-winning story of Dr. Leoncio P. Deriada.

The story centers on the dissolution of the relationship between Mariana and Victor, played by Sunshine Teodoro and Nathan Sotto, respectively.

Various stakeholders, including some faculty and staff from UPV, were able to watch the premier screening of the film.

The film is produced by ERK Film Production and UPV through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension’s Creative Work Grant Window.

Among the guests during the screening were respected film historian and film maker Prof. Nick Deocampo and Brgy. Capt. Elmer Tiaño with Kagawad Eroll Galvez of San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, where the film was shot.

Piamonte is an award-winning filmmaker, recently receiving the award for the Short Film Category during the 69th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards last December 2021 for his short film titled “SOLO.”

He is one of the three personnel from HumDiv who were granted the UP Arts Productivity Award and recognized with the rank UP Artist I by the UP Board of Regents last June 9.
